I like the mild, but the "hot" original is even better!
I liked the old original (now labeled as mild), and I tried the "hot" (now labeled "original") - and I would have to say it is 3x better than the mild. It is hotter, less sweet, light, bright, and delightful. It has a decent level of heat, but is still very pleasant. This sauce really does work on just about anything. There is a flavor that reminds me of sriracha without being too close to that flavor profile. After trying the new "original/hot" I decided to order the medium/chipotle. If you liked the mild, you will love the original flavor.Original Review Here:I am a hot sauce fan. I not only enjoy extra spicy hot sauces, but really enjoy a hot sauce that showcases the peppers in a blend of flavors. To me, a hot sauce is a flavor experience, and a food enhancer, and not something you simply douse your food with to give it a kick of heat. Mendez hot sauce is not simply a hot sauce, it is a flavor experience. When I first tried Mendez, I was skeptical. There is a flavor that makes me suspect that the peppers are fermented like a sriracha sauce, as there is a slight zest flavor that you would expect in fermented sauce. The flavor of the pepper used in the hot sauce is unique and complex - at first, I was not sure if I liked it. The smooth texture of the sauce, combined with the unique flavor profile of the peppers, makes it unlike any hot sauce I have ever tried. It quite literally goes with just about any type of food: BBQ meats, rice, as a salad dressing, eggs, tacos, as a sandwich spread, as a dip for chips or vegetables - it goes with just about anything. While it has a decent level of spice, it is still comfortably spicy, without overwhelming the flavors of food. Because it is not primarily made of vinegar like Tabasco sauce, it actually pairs better which a wider variety of food, while still enhancing the flavor experience. The consistency is more like a very smooth sriracha sauce. The complex flavors, moderate heat level, and smooth finish make this hot sauce and excellent addition to any culinary condiment collection. I am looking forward to finding more food pairing options for this hot sauce. I will definitely be ordering more in the very near future.

Taste is awesome!!!, but I do get the one star reviews here.
Let me begin saying that this is not like any other hot sauces out there, it tastes fresh, crisp and delicious.Of course it might be surprising and off-putting to some people since when it comes to taste and smell our perceptions might be different from others, and if you add to it the expectation to taste similar to other hot sauces out there it might get the some negative reactions. For me it is great, while it does not contains milk it reminds me to the Venezuelan "Ajicero de Leche" that my dad used to bring home, perhaps the Malagueta chili is a close family to those used for that.I've already purchased 6 bottles of this, it goes great with steaks like churrasco, or picanha it is also great on chicken and shrimp, and for empanadas it is absolutely awesome. I can't get enough of this to the point that this gave me a new project trying to reproduce those Ajiceros de leche that I remember!.So, if you have never tried it, be prepared for a different experience, don't expect the ordinary hot sauce and hopefully you'll love it as many others, and if you don't my apologies to take you down this road but life without adventure and experimentation is simply not fun!One last note, I have NOTHING to do with the seller or manufacturer of this sauce, I was completely unaware of its existence until I was watching a YouTube video from Red's BBQ and Pizzeria reviewing the Carson Rodizio and after seeing his reaction to the sauce I laughed and said I got to try that $%#!

Best new hot sauce! Unique addition to our table
The media could not be loaded. We were excited to try this new hot sauce as we like to have cholula and sriracha with almost every meal. We have tried many of the other hot sauces that we have found as well, but nothing has made its way to our table as an instant staple like this one.So, I’m not sure if I can describe the flavor well, but I’ll give it a try. (Just come over and try it yourself ;) )It has a unique zing. It’s a flavor that isn’t just hot, but flavorful. It tastes fresh with a zip of the Malagueta peppers which must be where the those unique flavors come from.Even my kids like the flavor! It feels good being able to help a company that helps other people as well. I love knowing that every time we buy a bottle it makes an impact. As my daughter said when she heard the story of Mendez hot sauce helping families: “We need more hot sauce in our lives!”

Good flavor but no heat like the real stuff
I was a bit let down by this. I'm a huge fan of the original yellow mendez sauce sold in brazil and any time I know someone coming from brazil I have them pick me up some. I was excited to see this pop up but when I got it I was a bit disappointed. It has the same flavor but really no heat. Its still a good sauce and if you have no heat tolerance its probably worth getting. I'd say this is like on the choluha level of heat, maybe less. I probably won't be getting this again unless they start selling the original stuff, and then I'll buy crates of it.

Unusual taste, but makes a strong statement
I’m a bit up in the air about this hot sauce. The flavor is one-of-a-kind in my experience; I don’t even know what to compare it to. So it’s not surprising that some don’t like it – I’m hovering somewhere midway myself.Re hotness: Wiki has the malagueta pepper at 60,000-100,000 SHU, just below habanero range. Compare that with Huy Fong sriracha “rooster” sauce, made from fully ripened red jalapeno peppers usually rated from 5,000-8,000 SHU. So, since the malagueta peppers are the first listed ingredient on the bottle (and thus the most prominent by weight), you can expect it to be much spicier than the sriracha sauce. I personally found it somewhat spicier, but not by that much. Still, plenty hot for me!I’ll be experimenting with BBQ sauces, aolis, and so forth using this sauce.
