Nissin MF18 for Nikon Macro Ring Flash - TTL Flash with Soft Diffuse Light and Precise Control for Professional Macro Photography, 1/1 to 1/1024 Power, User Friendly Controls

I love macro photography, especially flowers. Bought this flash to use with a 100mm Tokina macro lens. Already have the Nissin Di866 speedlight and really like it. With this macro ring flash you get nice dark backgrounds in bright sunlight (shoot at f32) and great depth of field. Not so hot for portraits as you get the ring flash shape as a catch light in the subjects eyes. But, for macro, it's been really nice.

I use this for dentistry with a 105mm macro 1:1 lens and it works great. I used to be a professional photographer but always used a studio ring flash for macro photography. Decided upon this flash when I needed a lens mounted ring flash. This flash is very bright for macro photography and very quick and easy to control. Color screen is a great feature and it makes adjustments quick and easy. Screen has a gyroscope that automatically rotates when the camera rotates to make reading it easier. Comes in a nice faux leather foam padded box with snap buttons. Flash comes with multiple sizes of lens adapters. Easily clips on and off lens just by pinching two buttons on either side of the flash. You can also push a button to make the flash pop out to the sides making the flash spread wider. It's not powerful enough to expose correctly at any great distance (>4ft or so), but it is a macro flash. I typically shoot at f22 iso400 with shutter speed of 1/125th and distance of ~6-12 inches from subject. In my situation I need everything in focus and properly exposed and these settings give me good results with my lens.

What can I say, for macro work its awesome. At first I ordered the Nikon version which won't work with Canon (or at least not with ttl). I was a little confused about which camera system the listed item was for but once I got the correct one all the features worked perfect. The carry box is awesome, very nice product.

I figured if I spent the extra money I'd finally be able to get the ring flash that would do exactly what I wanted it to do. I would not have known this was used other than the tape on the original box being already cut. In initial test shots I've used faster shutter speeds and wider apertures than previous (cheap) ring flashes.

this item is fully recommended for macro intraoral photography ; bright, simple, manageable and easy to use. An excellent accessiry at the right price.

I looked around at many ring flashes for macro. There were not a whole lot of reviews for this product. Nissin products have good quality associated with what they produce. I figured that they know what they are doing when it comes to photography and optics. I am very happy with this flash. I use it for all occasions, just not macro. But as far as the macro settings are concerned, they are top notch. This flash is very well engineered. The command at the macro level is outstanding. 1/6 steps of control. I have done a lot of testing and what they claim is true to form. 1/6 of a step is is a very small increment and their product delivers it. Their are about 20 steps at the macro level. You have at your command a super tight command of light for any situation. My setup is a Canon 20D and this flash works perfectly with it. I have tried out a lot of functions that the flash has to offer and I can't find anything to complain about. They have delivered a quality product. I am still getting to grips with this setup so will not pretend to be in a position to review its performance. I purchased on review of others. What I can report on is the build quality. The finish, presentation and functionality is simply the best it can get. The kit comes with several adapter rings, for those who know of the problems with thread alignment and locking filters, some never to part company again, the adapter rings supplied by Nissin work without any issue, proving quality in this detail. I have high hopes that the performance will equal the build quality, expensive yes but so far I am not disappointed.

Der Ringblitz kam in einer wertig anmutenden Box mit passender Schaumstoff-Polsterung, die auch die im Preis enthaltenen Adapterringe sicher verstauen lässt. Das Teil ist gut durchdacht - etwas das zuschaltbare LED-Einstell-Licht oder die Möglichkeit, die beiden Hälften des Rings auseinanderzuschieben und damit Vignettierungen zu vermeiden. Ich habe den Blitz an einer Canon 5D Mk III auch im Master-Slave-Betrieb mit einem anderen Nissin Blitz als Slave verwendet, das funktioniert einwandfrei, wobei man auch die beiden Hälften des Rings separat in der Helligkeit regeln kann. Beim Einsatz für Portraits muss man bedenken, dass der Blitz genau in der optischen Achse sitzt und es deshalb häufig rote Augen gibt, díe dann per Bildbearbeitung korrigiert werden müssen. Ansonsten ist aber auch (neben dem Hauptzweck Makro) die Portraitfotografie eine gute Anwendung für den Ringblitz, vor allem in Kombination mit einem zweiten Blitz als Slave zur Ausleuchtung des Hintergrunds. Eine weitere Einsatzmöglichkeit ist die Reproduktion von Dokumenten, vorausgesetzt, sie haben keine spiegelnden Oberflächen. Ich habe z. B. einige alte Zeitungsausschnitte damit digitalisiert. Insgesamt fünf Sterne für ein technisch einwandfreies Gerät mit viel Zubehör und einem unschlagbaren Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis.

Very good results, with a reasonable price. I am using it with nikkon camera and totally satisfied with the quality of light and pictures knowing that it's a ring flash.

５Dmk3（現在ｍｋ４）に使うために購入。 フィギュアや小物、花などのマクロ撮影に使用してます。 純正からもリングストロボ ツインストロボが出てますが、口径77mmで使用できるのでこちらを選びました。 価格は純正よりも安くケラれ防止の為に広がる点がもっとも購入の決めてになりました。 マクロのレンズを使う場合なら純正でもいいのですがこちらだと24-70F4で60～70mmでケラれずに使うことができます。 100mmのマクロで。とも思いましたがワンフェスなどのイベントでは混雑により距離を自由にできませんから大変重宝しています。 花撮りメインとも思いましたがイベントがメインになってしまいました。 ファインマクロなどのモードも大変使えます。 安いLEDリングライトも使っている方を見かけますが高くてもこちらを買っておいた方が色々と使える分金額差は気にならなくなると思います。 マスターとして使えるので430EX２+ディフェーザーをLブラケットで使うと様々な光源を作れるので撮影の幅が大変広がりました

J'ai fait plusieurs essais sur un EOS 550D qui est déclaré totalement compatible par NISSIN mais également sur un CANON G16 moyennant une bague adaptatrice ( NISSIN ne se prononce pas quant à la compatibilité avec ce compact expert ). Impression générale et remarque : flash bien construit, livré dans un étui rigide de très bonne facture avec les bagues adaptatrices et un manuel de prise en main rapide, ce manuel est plutôt un pense bête mais qui ne permet pas de prendre connaissance vraiment des fonctionnalités du flash. Le manuel complet doit être téléchargé sur le site de NISSIN mais il n'est pas disponible en langue française ( disponible en Anglais, Allemand....). Les menus de paramétrage du flash sont très intuitifs , j'ai apprécié également l'écran couleur avec la rotation automatique de l'affichage ( paramétrable ). Le flash peut être paramétré maître et piloter un flash esclave ( validé sur l'EOS 550D avec un flash CANON SPEEDLIGHT 430 EX II). Mes premiers essais en macrophotographie avec un EF 100 2,8 USM IS L et en portrait avec le G16 sont convaincants. A titre de curiosité j'ai essayé le flash avec un zoom EFS 10 22 pour des photos d'intérieur, le résultat est également épatant alors que ce n'est pas l'utilisation prédestinée avec ce type de focale ( limite: à 10 mm le corps du flash masque les angles mais à des focales intermédiaires il est tout à fait exploitable ). Essais EOS 550D: modes essayés P, Tv, Av, M en mode TTL, synchro, haute vitesse, flash maître...tout peut être maîtrisé G16 : modes essayé P, Av en mode TTL, le mode manuel ne semble pas fonctionner du moins en TTL, je n'ai pas encore cerné les limites de compatibilité ( rappel NISSIN ne se prononce absolument pas sur la compatibilité avec le G16 ) mais ce flash laisse entre 'voir des possibilités intéressantes par rapport à un flash cobra externe. La météo n'était pas propice pour approcher la faune en extérieur et faire des essais plus avancés en macrophotographie, mais mes premiers résultats sont prometteurs. Un achat avec un excellent rapport qualité/ prix et pleinement recommandable.
