Please do not send the Kindle edition of any of these books. I am sory hat I have not been more careful in my selections but I do not want any Kindle . Thank you. I have not read the book so I can not review it. I think Phame perkins is an excellent scholar so although I have not read it I would give her at least four stars

An Excellent Companion Volume to Fr. Boadt's "Reading the Old Testament"
This text, written by a professor at Boston College (Pheme Perkins), is a detailed and readable textbook that would work well right next to Fr. Boadt's Old Testament reference. There are so many things I never knew about the New Testament, like... did you know we really aren't sure who wrote the Gospels? (They were unsigned, so the church fathers associated them with apostles). There's just a lot of good stuff in there that pretty much summarize "what you should know" in your own journey with God's word. Many blessings to you and yours.

Good text for Scripture study.
Very good companion text for a study group in which I participate. Is an excellent presentation of the social and geographic background to the writings of the apostle, Paul, as well as commentaries on his epistles (the current focus of the study group) as well as the gospels following. Would recommend it to anyone studying the New Testament scripture writings.

I just got the book so have to spend more time with it BUT from reading the beginning and perusing a lot of it, I am inclined to think it is amazing in its scope of information both familiar and never encountered before. I like it!

Great first step for a deeper understanding
Perfect for a deeper understanding of Scripture. Not a light read, but very easy to get through. Just an hour a day and I've learned more with one book than years of classes/talks that I've attended. Was recommended by my DRE and I would highly recommend.

I bought for class
I bought for class, and the parts that we read for the class were good. I look forward to reading it more thoroughly after ordination.

Faint text, very hard to read
I haven't read yet. Started to read, and can only read in full sunlight or holding directly under a desk lamp. The print quality is terribly faint. For $20-ish hard to believe that it has the print quality of a 1970's underground newspaper.
