OK
I don't know what I expected. Interesting to see someone else's sketchbook but I can't say it is all that helpful in my quest to be a better watercolor artist.

Couldn’t see the colors!
I was excited to read this book but upon opening it I noticed a flaw. In the printing of my copy, there must have been an error in the amount of ink used in the color. I could easily read the text (black and white) but the colored print was barely visible.... I ordered this book mainly to see the examples she had given, colors used and so forth. I sadly returned my copy for this reason and am hesitant to order another one for fear of having the same thing happen. Has anyone else had this problem?

Look over the shoulder at a studen the master teacher's progress through learning Botanical Illustration
While not the "how-to" I expected, for someone interested in Botannical watercolor or drawing, this books opens up in detail the kind of learning required as you follow both student and master through her work as she progresses through the two year course and critiques of her kind-hearted, yet eagle-eyed master teachings. I will go back to this again and again.

My favorite and oft-referred to botanical illustration book.
This was my first botanical illustration book purchase and I must say I was not disappointed! I've read and purchased several more (carefully chosen) since then and yet this one remains my very favorite and oft-referred to. I simply love it! It's very helpful to me to see not only the tutor's comments on her sketchbook, SBA assignments, and SBA diploma pieces, but also to see how she worked these things out, what colors she used, and so on, is super-helpful and inspiring. A great resource!

Wow! What a great book!
I bought this book as an art reference book and it serves that purpose very well. It's packed with very well done watercolor sketches of plants, fruits and vegetables. There are color swatches and lots of margin notes from the artist, Mary Ann Scott. I've already gotten a lot of great art ideas from this book and I'm sure it will continue to serve me very well for many years to come.

Very Inspiring
I love this book. It follows the progress of a botanical art student and shows her work throughout the course. The illustrations are wonderful and the colour charts very detailed. Admittedly it isn't really a text book for a beginner in botanical art but they would certainly enjoy looking at the illustrations and reading about the author's experience on the course and gain inspiration. Highly recommended.

digestible and easy to follow along without much expert knowledge needed
A simple book to get you inspired and started with your own nature observation. Different expressions would have been appreciated. The pages are filled with large text and illustrations, digestible and easy to follow along without much expert knowledge needed.

Superb reference book
This is a great reference book for anyone studying botanical art, particularly for the information on achieving the correct colour tones. It is the perfect guide as to the discipline required in building up our own reference material to achieve the high standards required in botanical illustration. It is highly recommended and at Amazons price not to be missed.

This is a great book for anyone contemplating the Society of Botanical Artists ...
This is a great book for anyone contemplating the Society of Botanical Artists Distance Learning Diploma. It says more about the course than any prospectus as it is written by a former student and is based on personal experience. I thought the work at the beginning was rather good, but at the end it was stunning! I have really enjoyed reading it.

beautiful but quite advanced
This is a beautiful book, and I could look at it for hours, but as a beginner wanting to improve my drawing skills I found it too advanced. It tracks someone on a botanical illustration course, and included criticisms from the tutors, but to my mind they were all lovely! A lovely book but not what I was expecting.

Bought as recommended by an art tutor for an illustration course. Plenty of ideas and you can follow the 'course' yourself without the stress! Nicely laid out and good information for budding botanical artists.
