Q: Does it really work for soundproofing?

No it's more for keeping the cold or hot air from coming in your house. Or if your using it for the bottom of the door to keep the breeze out

Q: I have single pane windows (slide up to open) but where do i put this? under the sliding part? where the two windows meet? help!

There really aren't that many places for this item to go in a sliding window. whittling a strip of this and wedging it into an open section won't be fun. What did you want the item to do? This stuff makes for a nice wrist rest when using the pc and the pc itself sits nicely on three strips of it. Invest in a larger window basically, I dunno what this stuff could be for otherwise really.

Yes you can cut it with a very sharp tool Start to cut it from the non sticky side all the way down until you reach the sticky surface.
