Everyone who owns any kind of blade needs this puck
This is a great little puck to keep around and sharpen up any blade you might need because once you learn how to use it properly, you can put a hair-shaving edge on blades within a couple minutes! I would check out YouTube for a demonstration because once you see it and try it, you'll get the hang of it fast. It's really easy to use, I promise!Personally, I always have trouble keeping the blade at a proper angle when I'm trying to use a flat sharpening stone at a table. Instead of taking the blade to the stone, it makes a lot of intuitive sense to take the stone to the blade instead! It's easier to sharpen that way and more fun!So once this came in the mail and I learned to use it, I started putting dangerously sharp edges on all the things! Even on my Moraknivs Lol not just tools such as lawn mower or axe. This puck is really diverse in its applications, and easy to use, in that way! My fiance was skeptical, but he asked me to sharpen his knife for him and 5 minutes later, he had to admit that the Lansky puck did a really good job!I purchased this puck specifically to sharpen and maintain a Tramontina machete, and it has done marvelously in that regard. Traditionally, those types of machetes come a little unfinished, so the owner can modify to their specific needs, so it came without an edge. This Lansky puck was a dream to use, it's actually really zen to sit there with it rubbing the edge of the blade, and hear the way it rings when you have the angle right. I was able to put a hair-shaving edge on that machete. It took a little while for the first time but maintenance after that has been very quick. When I am able, I will be picking up more of these pucks to keep around. They're best used with either water or oil. If you choose water for a stone, stick to water, and if you choose to use blade oil, then stick with that. You can use them dry but it's not a very comfortable experience to do so. They're a fantastic value for the money, as they're inexpensive, effective, efficient, and easily portable!

Easy-to-use and convenient to take on the go
The media could not be loaded. As basically every other reviewer has said, this is a top-quality sharpener for all of your large-bladed gardening tools and such. I bought it for use on my axes and hatchets, but it could also be used for lawn mower blades, scythe blades, or even your hoe.It has two sides to it. The dark side is the coarse side with a grit of 120; the lighter side is a medium grit of 280. If your blade is severely dulled, you can start with the coarse side and then move on to the medium side after getting out the more significant imperfections. It is very easy to use, and I believe that most people will be able to use it successfully. You just go along the blade in small, overlapping circular motions. Start at one end and slowly work your way to the other. It is actually quite soothing to hear the gentle scraping of the metal knowing that it will soon be sharp and ready for action again. It is small enough to throw in a pack and take with you out into the field to do a quick sharpening even far away from your workshop. It is also very sturdy, so you don't really have to worry about it breaking in your pack.I have already used it to sharpen my hatchet, and I am looking forward to getting out in the shed soon to get everything else good and sharp.

Low cost, high quality puck.
I was surprised at the quality of this product. I was advised by friends not to by a cheap puck stone. However, I really could not afford the more expensive ones. I have used stones to sharpen my knives, axe and machete for over thirty years and I have never or should say, am not a big fan of files as they tend to remove excessive amounts of metal from the item I am sharpening. Unless the item is in great need of reforming, I would say a file or files are not needed. I have used the rectangles stones in the working manner like the puck is used, however, the puck was so much easier to use as it conforms to your hand. After purchasing this item, I used it on my axe and my machete and I was blown away at the ease and effect it had on my items. I highly recommend this item for everyone and although I have never used a higher quality puck, this item sharpened my axe and machete to the point of shaving my arm hairs. For the cost, you get an awesome quality puck.

Absolutely recommend
This puck is great. First time using one. I have used all types of sharpening stones. This one is by far the easiest to use. I got a nice edge on my splitting maul and small hatchet in just a few minutes. This is a must have in my opinion.

Knocks out the dings! - works well IMHO
So I bought this for my newer Fiskar Axe. I have a poor spine/cervical cord. I needed a darn good axe to get some kindling and such at times. Anyways, I was quite upset I goofed up and split some "split" wood for kindling w/o my round-chopping block a pal gave me. The rocks below chipped up a very sharp edge to begin with (great axe BTW).I considered having it done at ACE or such... (hardware store). I am more of a do it myself guy even with my spent spine. This stone fit the bill. Perhaps the oil is smart to have and I have it and used it- but... I can simply say i you put about 10 minutes into a decent head, you will a nice edge. With the axe I have now (I cannot use my heavy maul now)- it cuts up the pieces I have simply so I have my kindling or something useable- I heat my home with wood. I don't do much wood splitting now- I cannot and pay for it. BUT- a sharp blade with the right type of axe/splitter truly makes a difference.I love being able to get the edge to the way I want and it works quite well. Not hard effort. Simply a rounding process with focus on the edges that perhaps one may have "nipped". I love this rock and it does the trick. I trust it more than taking it to a commercial store that will simply machine it. I think you will be happy. If not, I guess I don't know squat- lol. Been around a bit so I think I am calling this one right.
