Pc Accessories - Connectors Pro IDC 40P 10 Feet Rainbow Color Flat Ribbon Cable for 2.54mm 0.1" Pitch Connectors (40P-10FT)

It seems most of the ribbon cable sold here on Amazon has this annoying clear "film" that essentially just causes problems all the way around. This 26-conductor 28-gauge rainbow ribbon cable I just received is EXACTLY what I was looking for--and you probably are as well. Perfect for retro computer projects, such as old Apple II machines. The colored strands separate from each other perfectly--exactly as you would expect/hope. The wire sheathing strips cleanly using several different wire strippers I own--from crappy Harbor Freight to top-shelf Klein versions.

I ordered "Pc Accessories - Connectors Pro 20 Feet IDC 10P Rainbow Color Flat Ribbon Cable 10 Conductors for 2.54mm Pitch Connectors 20-ft Pack." At a pick of 2.54 mm, 10 conductors should be 25.4 mm = 1 inch wide because 2.54mm = 0.1 inch and fits in connectors with a 0.1 inch pitch. What I received is shown in the above photos. The total width of 10 conductors is about 1/2 inch or 12 mm and this wire has a pitch of about 1.27 mm = 0.05 inch because 10 conductors have a total width of about 12.7 mm = 0.5 inch. It simply will will not work for SIP connectors with 2.54 mm = 0.1 inch spacing between pins. It is appropriate for double row, DIP, 0.1 inch connectors requiring 1.27mm pitch ribbon cable. I am returning it because it did not come as specified in the Amazon offering. I need 2.54mm pitch ribbon cable for my SIP application.

Perfect for my electronics project. The wires were just too small for my wire cutter holes making them annoying to cut, but they all work fine

Didn't notice anything out of the ordinary crimping pins for connectors on a custom BMS board.

I got this to build up cables and adapters for a project. 16 pin IDC connector on one end to single IDC (F) on the other end. The colors allow me to read the color code straight off the wire without any additional labeling.

Saw some reviews with complaints about not separating cleanly to make various size cables. This cable splits up into any width just fine, strips and solders with no problems.

If you're looking to use this to create 2, 3, 4, 5, etc wire runs (with DuPont connectors, for example) I would look elsewhere. It doesn't separate easily. There is a layer of clear plastic on the ribbon as a whole that makes it very difficult to separate and strip the wires cleanly, which is really necessary if you're trying to crimp on 2.54mm connectors. I'm sure it's great if you just want all 10 pins for a connection, but since most of the time we bifurcate ribbon for smaller connections, this ends up being more trouble than its worth.

I used this for a control board connector and it works perfectly. It even rolls fairly decently for quick runs inside of a conduit.
