Bootstrap Farmer 50 Cell Seed Starting Trays Extra Strength, 60 Pack, Seedling Tray 1020 Inserts

For the price I paid for this, this product should have all of its bugs worked out. However, the 50 cell germination tray and the lid do not work together. The flange of the tray is bigger than the lip on the lid, so the lid does not fit down over the planter tray, it just kind of sits on top of it. It will slip down over one end or the other, but does not sit evenly or securely.I suppose if I wanted to trim 1/8 or 3/16 of an inch off of every edge of the germination tray the lid would fit over it nicely. But should I have to do this? Will it weaken it? I wish these people had put as much time and thought into their product design as they do with their advertisements bragging on how great their trays are.Additionally, even though these germination tray inserts are supposed to reach to the bottom of the tray, they do not. They are probably a quarter inch shy in the center, which will make the germination tray sag when it is full of dirt.Bootstrap, you need to fix this. The lid should fit down over the tray properly and if you're going to say that the germination cell inserts go to the bottom of the tray, then they should do so.A-returning we will go.

I think that the 1020 tray is durable. I think that the dome is durable. The seed trays are durable. The problem is that there is over molding on the outside of the seed trays that does not allow the dome to sit flush on top.I called BootStrap and they confirmed what I just said. I asked if they were going to change this and they said they aren't planning to. It seems that they have goofed up on the seed trays and they are not going the start remanufacturing them any time soon.I guess that I was sad because the company had a good backstory and I had hoped that they would make a first class product. The salesman told me that he just learned to get used to the dome with it not fitting flush and would live with it. I am paraphrasing.Bottom Line: Good solid product but if you want the dome to fit snugly over the 1020 tray and the seed tray you are going to have to, like the sales person is, learn to just accept that it doesn't quite fit or you can take a pair of scissors, or a razor knife , and cut the excess off the seed tray. The seed tray is sturdy so I would guess that if you have a pair of tin snips around, that would be your best best. On a good note...the dome fits snugly over the 1020 tray. Hurrah

Excellent trays, they will last a lifetime. I drilled out the bottom whole with a quarter inch bit big enough so my finger could push out plant but still hold soil in tray. Just like Charles dowding has his seed trays. Thanks seller!

It's the end of December and a very cold winter here so I haven't had the chance to use these yet but I am so impressed with how thick and strong they are. I have no doubt they will last for a very long time and looking forward to starting some seedlings in February.Edit: Here I am a year later and getting ready to start some more seedlings. I just really felt I had to say how much I like these trays and plug modules. I've never seen anything that compares. If you are tired of buying the flimsy disposable trays from big box stores or garden centers every year, over and over again, then you won't be disappointed with these. Based on my experience with them last year I expect them to last for many years.

I purchased this as a gift for my son who is a hobby organic farmer. I would have given this product 5 stars but the dome lid was designed not to fit securely over the cell trays while they are in the open 10x20 tray. The dome lid does fit securely over the 10x20 tray. I had several phone and e-mail conversations with customer service and each time they were courteous and helpful. Both cell and open trays are definitely the strongest we have seen and looks to last a lifetime. If you just need the 10x20 tray with the dome lid I would definitely recommend with no hesitation. My son now uses the 10x20 trays with dome lids for his microgreens.

Great product- but the corners of each tray were cracked, which is disappointing since they are suppose to be “extra strong”. I’ve always used and have bought from bootstrap farmers, and I always open my orders with at least 1-2 trays with small cracks but this one was the whole order of 5 trays. Not sure if the cold weather has anything to do with the cracking during shipping. Great product just needs better shipping support.

I am very pleased with this seed starter kit. I got sprouts in 48 hours! I was sick of playing around with Saran Wrap and skewers! I am trying a bunch of cool season annuals — yes, I am a bit late —. Considering this is basically 6 pieces of plastic, I do think the price is high, but I am pleased with the product. I can report on durability when I re-use in February. I like supporting a family owned American business.

Love these trays! I have a lot of them and have always help up well. Unfortunately this batch of 50 cell plug trays had a slight issue. The bottom tray had some cracks in three of the cells.This is in no way criticizing Bootstrap farmer as I truly do love their products and really do help with not having to throw out trays year after year.

i just used this for seedling ,seems good quality and feel it have a weight to it, packaged was deliver is a non damaged box. also product was delivered in time .

These seedling starter trays are extremely sturdy and will be useful for many years. Excellent quality. Very pleased with purchase.
