Very quiet, well designed, good air-flow, even at low speed.
About 10 years ago, I had purchased a round Envirocare Air Purifier, but while it did the job, it was way too noisy, even at the lowest speed. I promptly returned it and got my money back. Before I ordered this model, I read through every single review here, as well as the extensive article on air purifiers (with ratings) in a recent issue of Consumer Reports. Probably the main reason why I decided on this unit was because Consumer Reports said, at high speed, it was the quietest model of all the ones they tested.I ordered this on May 22, 2012. Much to my surprise, it was delivered on May 24th! And that was with Super Saver (free) shipping! After taking it out of the box and removing the styrofoam, reading the manual (yes, I actually do that), I plugged it in and it was good to go.It has four separate speeds: low, medium, high, and turbo! Turbo is quite noisy, but it really circulates the air in the room. After the initial "air cleaning" in the room, which was only about an hour on the first day, I find that the only speeds I ever use are low (while sleeping) and medium during the day. Both of those speeds are quiet enough to not interfere with talking, TV watching, music, etc., yet are sufficient to continually keep the room air fresh and clean.Incidentally, the day the unit arrived, but before it was turned on, the whole house was vacuumed and the shelves were dusted. I have a flat panel TV stand made of tempered glass that has always attracted dust like a magnet. As an experiment, for the first four days the air purifier was running the windows were kept totally closed. During those four days no dust accumulated on the TV stand. However, as the days got warmer, I opened the windows in the evening to let cooler air in. Then the TV stand started getting dusty again. I'm sure when the very hot summer months arrive, and the air conditioning is used instead of opening the windows, the TV stand will remain dust-free.I have no complaints about this product. It is working great. It was a very good buy.UPDATE: After more than a year of use (almost exclusively at the lowest speed) the pre-filter has only needed to be changed once, and the indicator light sequence for the main filter still shows it has more than half of it's useable life remaining. This tells me that the cost for changing filters will be much lower than I anticipated. I suspect this is because no one smokes here and there are no indoor pets, both of which, in my opinion, would entail a significantly shorter filter life.

Life Changing Event
I bought this for my wife about a year and a half ago and it's the best thing I did! I has reduced her allergy symptoms by about 85%! My only regret is not getting them sooner. We effectively live in about 1,400 square feet along with two cats. I have three of these running full-time, one in the bedroom, one in the living room, and one in the home-office.We change the carbon pre-filters about every three months, and it is visibly obvious that they are effectively cleaning the impurities out of the air. I'm always amazed at what junk is floating around that we had previously been inhaling in our lungs, but now is trapped by the filters. The main HEPA filter we changed unintentionally late, at about a year and a half versus at the one year point. And initially upon visual inspection, one is tempted to say "it doesn't look that dirty," but when compared to a new filter, it is obvious it has been doing its job effectively also, and needs to be replaced. See the comparison between old and new on a 30-second video on my YouTube account at:http://youtu.be/D6SNtLB9W-0At the time of writing, a 4-pack of carbon pre-filters cost about $25, and one HEPA filter about $75, so about $100 per year for clean air; and again, worth it!We do have an occasional problem with a slight cyclical "squeaking," or "chirping" noise from one of the units, that is mitigated by temporarily changing the fan speed or shutting the unit off for a bit. The normal "white" noise from the fan running becomes unnoticeable very quickly.PROS:- Highly Effective- Quiet- Lightweight- Small profile and footprint- Super easy to replace both carbon pre-filter and HEPA filterCONS:- Occasional "chirping" noise within 6 month's use- Filters hard to find in local stores (rec: order on line)Summary: Highly effective and highly recommended! Very dramatic results in allergy symptom reduction!

Bought this for my parents place after researching reviews. This is the first air purifier I have really played with. We are shocked at how well it works. Put it in my parents bedroom and the air in there smells cool and fresh making you want to take a deep breath. What I also like about it is that it's light, very quiet when it needs to be on sleep mode (low fan setting on a timer for 8 hours) and although it's not tiny, it's foot print in the room is reasonable. Also it has read outs telling one how dirty the filters are so you know when it's time to replace them.

Very good unit. Produces a bit on noise at turbo speed but produces gray noise on high setting that is bareble at night. Solid machine.

Probably does a good job because air seems fresher but even on a low setting the air in the home is a bit cool from all the circulation. Sounds like a dumb comment but that's just a fact. Unit is a little loud. I'm confident it's diong what it's supposed to do but I also bought a Coway Smart (1512 I think) for the bedroom and it's much quieter and has a setting that senses the air quality. I'd probably buy two of the Coway's if that particular model was able to handle more than 350 square feet.

Set on low it's barely audible and not annoying at all
Item was larger than expected measuring 24" H x 20"W x 9"D and weighs 20.2 Lbs. This makes it difficult for my wife to carry it up or down stairs. Hence a another pleasing duty for Hubby. The performance is outstanding and will clear an average see room in less than 10 minutes when set on high. Set on low it's barely audible and not annoying at all, Performance is just as gordon low but it takes a bit longer.Very happy with the purchase.
