Q: Why does one need this floor stapler? Seems to me I could use the SX1838K and shoot staples in the tounge at a 45 degree angle.

You can, but it would be a real PIA to line it up for a perfect shot with no guide. The correct angle would be closer to 20 degrees than 45. If you are patient, you could do. But after you split or mar your flooring a few times, and have to dig out a few staples, you would probably run out and buy one if these.

Q: something is blocking the staples from fully loading.

If you cant see whats the issue - Tape apart the head, probably a piece of staple stuck. If it's new send it back.

Q: can i use this gun for knotty pine tounge and groove for wall covering?

Not if it's wall board, you're better off gluing - unless you can hit studs.
