10 Tracks - I'm a long time follower of George Duke, he was a player/composer on many Frank Zappa & Mothers albums, loved his work there, I morn his passing, but am glad he was able to make it until August 2, 2013, Frank "Left the Building" Dec. '93, I strongly recommend any, all of George's albums, I have some vinyl records from pre-CD times. These tracks are all good, "Sweet Baby", "Starting Again", "Shine On", "Just For You". Had to get "Dreamweaver" because of "Missing You", a tribute to his wife, who died about a year earlier, was moved, George is a man, or was a man of my heart, I share those feelings. As long as George's work lives, we purchase it.. he will live in our Spirit, Hearts. Do not let him be forgotten, Honor him and his music. -30-

We had attended a concert where some of George Dukes songs were performed. I couldn't find my vinyl records of his, so I ordered this CD. The songs I wanted to hear the most are on this CD, however, I would only give the CD a 5 rating.

So So Good! This is Music to relax and unwind.Its week day and weekend music.Easy Listening!

If you are new to George Duke this is good start. Has songs you might not know were songs by him . Good CD.

He's on the Holy Mothership 🎗

The late great jazz singer, composer, producer, and arranger George Duke has composed some of the greatest music pieces not only for himself but for other artists as well gives us a small taste of his musical genius on this greatest hits cd. I say small taste only because this just touches the surface of some of his greatest works. His body of work is too numerous to mention, but this cd is a great start.

Contains all early well-known tunes..DUKEY STICK and REACH FOR IT..from much missed master jazz-rock-fusionist

'Dukey Stick' is a good Funk song with vocals, guitars, keyboards, drums by George Duke with a little help by Sheila E. (good song to dance to); 'Reach For It' is another good Funk song to dance to and the vocals were also good; the song has been sampled by rappers such as Ice Cube; 'Searchin' My Mind' is another good song and the vocals were also good (another Funk song); 'Mothership Connection' is a cover version of Funk band Parliament, is 'okay' (I liked Parliament's version better); 'Sweet Baby' is a beautiful love song; I loved the piano and sitar strings and the song was nominated for a 'GRAMMY' award (I loved the lyrics); 'Starting Again' is a very nice song that is smooth, it flowed nicely, and the vocals were nice as well (another Funk song); 'Lady' is a lovely song and the vocals were nice (a perfect song for that 'special someone'); 'Shine On' is another great Funk/R&B song that is great to dance to and the vocals by George Duke is great as well (the song had a good beat); 'Just For You' is a nice love song that flowed nicely and George's vocals were nice as well; 'Movin' On' is a good song and I liked the vocals by singers Napoleon Murphy Brock and Josie James as well (the drums were also good). Good songs to dance to and George Duke was a very talented musician who passed away at such a young age; R. I. P. Mr. George Duke: You may be gone but you will never, ever be, forgotten. Un panorama non exhaustif de la production de ce génie des claviers. Roi de la funk music et du jazz, compositeur prolixe, side man reconnu par tous ses pairs, producteur de génie, homme d'une culture musicale" gigantesque" et variée, on aura là un (trop petit hélas) aperçu de ce que le bonhomme a été capable de composer avant que la mort nous prive de sa présence. Cette compilation nous met juste l'eau à la bouche et nous donne l'envie de creuser un peu plus dans la vaste étendue de sa production.

収録曲「Dukey Stick」「Reach for It」「Searchin' My Mind」「Mothership Connection」「Sweet Baby」「Starting Again」「Lady」「Shine on」「Just for You」「Movin' on」以上10曲。１曲目「Dukey Stick」で、既にジョージ・デュークの和音使いに浸れます。惜しむらくは、46分07秒と収録時間が短いこと。ただでさえ経歴の長かったジョージ・デューク氏の作品の一端しか味わえませんが、CDとして音質もデザインもよく、初めて聞くという方にもおすすめ出来ます。

ずばり、ReachForItとDukeyStickがまとめて聞けるということで購入しました。今から約27‾8年前、今やIT長者達でときめく六本木ヒルズの六本木通りを挟んだ向かい側の日本そば屋のビルの2階にBaseの黒人御用達の、その名もずばりSoulEmbassy(ソウル大使館)というディスコがありました。初めてそこに行った時、ReachiForItでめちゃくちゃカッコ良く踊りまくってる黒人達を見て唖然としたのを懐かしく思い出します。相当なカルチャーショックを受け、私の黒人大好き病が決定的になった瞬間でもありました。先ずReachForItのあのメチャ遅いテンポの曲にノリまくって踊れるリズム感の凄さにびっくり。普通の日本人だったら一拍の「間」が持てずに踊りにはならないでしょう。また、曲についても「こんなに黒くて重い曲初めて聴いた。」と感嘆したものです。ただ、感激し過ぎたあまり、コンファンクションやミッドナイトスター等を聞いても、テンポが速く軽い曲にしか聞こえなくなってしまうという副作用を起こしてしまいました。以後、黒くて重い曲を捜し求めファットバックやローズロイス、ワンウェイにザップ＆ロジャー等を聞きつないでいく事となります。今回このCDで約20年振りにReachForItとDukeyStickを聞きましたが、当時の感動がまったく色褪せずによみがえりました。やはり凄い曲なんだと思いました。MathershipConnectionをカバーしたり、リリース年順からP-Funkの影響を受けた一時期と評する向きもありますが、私にとっては間違いなくrealblackな2曲です。当時「きっとまた重くて黒い曲をやってくれるはずだ・・・」と、期待しながらGeorge Dukeのアルバムを買い続けていましたが、その後MasterOfTheGame以外お気に入りのアルバムや曲には出会えませんでした。SweetBabyやShineOnは私にとってのGeorge Dukeではなかったようです。ともあれ一度、ReachForItとDukeyStickを出来る限り「大きな音」で聞いてみて下さい。車の中がいいかもしれません。
