The HWP HW Brass-Saver for French Horn Set (H-BSF) is a non-metal flexible lead pipe and slide brush designed to safely and effectively clean your French horn. It removes saliva and corrosive mineral deposits without scratching the instrument, and can be used both wet and dry for maximum convenience.

Does what it's designed to do.
It cleans out the neck of my saxophone quite well. It's easier than pull-through swabs, and I can't imagine it can get stuck on the octave pip like some pull throughs can.

HW makes the best sax swabs
These fit easily into the bore of the horn and don't shed, unlike some of the cheapies. Highly recommended.

Great
The media could not be loaded. This works just fine for removing moisture from the neck. I run a cloth swab through first, and then stick this in, and store it in my case.It keeps it's shape and will conform to the neck. On alto, it goes in really easy, you just have to be aware of the pip which protrudes slightly. Just aim the swab away from that protrusion, and you'll be fine. It's not really something that you need if you have a cloth swab. However, it works great to clean out the neck alone, as you can just run it through and leave it out to dry. It's a bit big to run through a mouthpiece, though you probably could if you wanted to. I find that a simple cloth swab does a good enough job there.

Great Product But the Listing is Problematic
I love HW Products, and I know the original creators of these products. The problem is the listing. HW makes several products for woodwind instruments. They make a cleaning swab for Alto Sax and Bari Sax neck (which this is); however, they also make a product for Tenor Sax neck. I thought I was buying the one for tenor sax. It is OK because I can use them anyway. But if you need one specifically for Tenor Sax, you had better make double check to see whether they carry that one.

Good for cleaning sax necks
I use this to clean my sax neck after playing. However, NEVER store it inside the neck. It will just retain the moisture and eventually ruin your octave pad. Just slide it in and out a few times to remove the excess moisture and then store it elsewhere in your case.

H.W. Alto/Bari Neck Saver
I've only used this neck saver a couple of days, but I find it to be very helpful for quick and thorough runs through my neck to get the saliva out during practice so it doesn't build up and leak out onto the keys and my fingers. It works much better than the silk cloth and string because the silk cloth misses the outside curve of the neck. It also works great one the mouthpiece (after removing the reed of course). The only thing I'd like changed is for the rod to be about 1/2 inch longer than it is so it would be easier to grasp and pull out. I don't leave this in the neck though, I just run it through and set it aside to dry. This isn't like a baby's diaper that pulls the wetness away from the neck, it just holds the moisture, so the way I see it, if you leave it inside the neck, you're still leaving the damp threads against the metal.

It's a pad saver
so far I see no fiber clinging to the pads and the pad saver if puffed enough to cover the body.. one thing to consider is to swab the instrument with the pad saver then clean it dry with a cloth, or use a silk cloth on the instrument before putting the pad saver in.I had to receive a replacement for the original order because when it arrived the plastic package showed sings of not being new and it was open and patched with office tape.. the pad seemed to be okay but the whole thing looked like a previously returned item had been shipped to me. I contacted Amazon about the situation and they shipped a replacement for me right away. This one was new as far as I could tell.

VirVentures
Very small and not worth the price I paid for this item.

Disappointing durability
Initially my son was really impressed but within a month the longer thinner one has snapped and the remaining one is too thick to use for main slide (french horn). Great reviews but disappointed, perhaps we've been unlucky but would expect more for the price.

It works well and clears out the crud
Nicely designed piece of kit. Don't make the mistake that I did though. In the packet you get two brushes that on first sight look the same as each other - they aren't! One if of a narrower gauge than the other, and for the french horn you need to use the narrower gauge brush. It's a bit fiddly to use at first, and you'd be advised to wear a pair of gloves to do the job, as the plastic strap that you use to pull the brushes through the tubes is hard and sharp and you do need to apply a bit of force.Other than that, it works as expected, and clears out copious amounts of crud!
