Would have been a flagship model in 2016.
This TV would have been 2k dollars 3 years ago and considered a flagship model. Now that "Quantum dot" and other technologies are taking over, this is considered the base model. But man oh man, is it a good deal if you are upgrading a TV from 5-10 years back. Especially if you're old set was only 1080p (or FHD).The color accuracy of this set is great, it has deep blacks, and is brightly lit. In my living room that has a large sliding glass window I do notice some glare with the blinds open all the way and sun coming in, but I can still see the picture just fine and enjoy it. When you have proper dark viewing conditions, this set shines beautifully. Playing 4k content from Netflix was a genuine joy. Watching a sloth swim across a river, I put my nose almost to the set to see if I could spot the pixel matrix. The detail is so fine that it simply looked like the sloths hairs were on the surface of my set. I could not be happier with the picture. The SMART features of this set are also excellent. If you are part of the Samsung ecosystem, it can sync with your phone which will automatically set it up with your Samsung account and wifi password and apps. The process was very simple for me, but again I have a Samsung S8 that did all the work for me. Once synced, you can set the TV up on smart things and use your phone as a universal remote, mouse pad, and keyboard. It makes browsing on the tv very easy and enjoyable. Being able to tap out on my phone search terms in netflix or enter user names and password instead of having to thumb through using the TV remote was invaluable. For those that like to use headphones to watch tv, you can play your tv sound through your phone into your headset. This feature is great as the speakers on the TV are LOUD and will definitely wake the neighbors/family if you choose to watch in the late night/early morning. My only regret is that the OS is Samsungs proprietary system and not a version of Android that you could potentially modify with useful apps (such as Kodi) that may not be included. You can of course just get a fire stick and do so that way, but I would always prefer to just have a one stop shop if I can. Not a big deal but just note you are stuck with the Apps Samsung gives you access to.The tv has a nice "game mode" that detects when your console is playing and automatically adjusts to an ultra low latency mode that makes gameplay buttery smooth and colors pop on screen. Moving to this TV from my old Sceptre 50" I was astonished at all the detailed textures and vibrancy of color I had been missing. It was almost like playing the game for the first time again. There are many nice and well thought out features in this "base model" TV that make it well worth the price if you are upgrading from a set that is 3-10 years old. While it may not have the incredible colors and HDR range that the latest technologies of QLED's offer, it is a GREAT set for the money you are paying and the size you are getting. Having the best that 2016 could offer is good enough for me, and if you don't need the absolute best and latest then I think you will find this set offers excellent value in both picture quality and SMART features.

Excellent Television!
The upscaling feature on this TV is impressive! I connected my computer to this TV with HDMI 2.0 played some Dirt Rally 2. I was playing at 1080p and the upscaling on the television did I great job! I thought I was playing at 1440p or rather my monitors native resolution. For reference I'm running a GTX 1080 graphics card. Additionally, I played Hitman 2 from my computer at 1440p and it looked fantastic. I sit roughly four feet away from my TV on a couch and being able to play at 1440p at a rock solid frame rate with upscaling to 4k is awesome. The difference between 1440p and 4k is expensive performance wise and the upscaling this TV provides closes that gap! I have better than 20/20 vision and the difference between 1440p and 4k is negligible on this TV with upscaling.I tried Hitman 2 at 1440p and 4k resolutions. As for HDR support this is the first time I've seen HDR in person. I tried turning the effect off and on in Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice on PS4 Pro. My brother and I both agree that having the effect on is much nicer. Its subtle, but worth it. I also tried turning HDR on in Hitman 2 running from my PC and again the effect is nice, yet subtle. I contemplated getting the QLED module of this TV, which is Samsungs answer to OLED made by their competitors LG...etc. HDR with either a QLED or OLED would be more noticeable. The Samung Q60 43in 4k TV was going for $800 then dropped to $700 on Amazon as soon as it came out a couple days ago. I bought this TV for $430 plus tax so you'll have to decide if the upgrade is worth it to you.Playing games on the Nintendo Switch like Mario Kart 8 look phenomenal as well. The game natively runs at 1080p, however since this TV outputs all content to 4k everything is upscaled. Looks great! Its not magic however, if you're playing Rocket League on the Switch its going to look and run subpar compared to the more powerful consoles and systems.Smart features - A smart hub appears whenever you turn the TV on. Since I mainly use my PS4 Pro for Prime Video/ Hulu etc. I turn the smart hub off that way I don't have exit the smart hub everytime I turn on and off the TV. I really like how the TV automatically switchs HDMI sources when it detects them! Super convenient! The TV automatically detected my DirectTV remote. This created some initial confusion as I was using the new remote until I tried my old DirecTV remote. I do like how this TV has the option for both Ethernet and WiFi support as updating the television will be much easier.Controls- the navigation in the menu is easy to understand. I like how this TV has an auto brightness function in eco mode. The TV senses the brightness in the room and adjusts accordingly. I only thought that was available on the more expensive modules so that was a nice surprise. The game mode on this TV is very responsive, I believe 15ms response time which is fast for a VA panel TV. The motion looks excellent on the Samsung RU7100 compared to my friends flickering Vizio TV.I would have liked to have is a navigation button on the underside of the RU7100 TV. This was likely omitted for space reasons as the TV is very thin.Overall - I am highly satisfied with the Samsung RU7100. Over the last few weeks this television has become more and more enjoyable as I discover new features and test the panels capabilities over different devices...consoles/ PC etc. You will be happy with this purchase!

Great TV for the price!
I got the 50" TV, my first 4k TV. I really enjoy the TV, picture is amazing. Been playing Xbox One X and PS4 Pro enhanced games on it, and they look amazing. The game mode works great, not seeing any input delay.I didn't make any changes to the settings, just standard right out of the box and looks great to me! Even the 1080 content looks better than it did on my old 1080 HD TV. The smart features are pretty standard. Offer lots of apps for streaming and some games. There are pre-installed apps that you cannot delete which is kinda irksome but oh well, not a deal breaker in my opinion. My only concern is a few times when booting up one of the consoles (Xbox/PS4) the picture would look strange. Kinda distorted/wrong colors. But, would fix itself during the booting up or if I just reset the consoles. Did on both of them so don't believe it's the consoles (both are brand new as well). But only happened twice so far. Other than that, really love the TV!Sound is great too! You could get better sound obviously with a bar or speaker set-up, but just the built-in sound great to me. May sound strange if you have it set up on its stand rather than wall mount it though (at least in my experience) :)

Excellent tv, no need to pay more!
Very good price/quality deal on amazon for this TV (price goes up and down). Not the lastest high end technology, but it does an excellent job, great image and colors quality, and the speakers are surprisingly good and the smart system is performant! The average user like me will not see a big difference between this TV and TVs 3x this price. Im confident that this TV will last for years, like my other samsung devices. Compatibility and connection between TV and samsung devices (phones, tablets) is really easy and efficient. Stylish and sleek design. Love it.
