Corsets and Crinolines

Gorgeous book which I have wanted for ages. Fabulous info and explanatory photos and diagrams.

A great book to have if you are looking at recreating historical garments, the book includes patterns which you can scale up and then adjust to your size. Although this book is not really suitable for a beginner as scaling up the pattern by hand is not the easiest thing to do but you can scan it onto the computer instead (there are tutorials available on YouTube) then you would have to make a number of mock ups to get your desired size, it is a long winded way to get the final result but these patterns are drafted from original garments so you will be getting a very accurate result

Haven't drafted from it yet, but it's great to have this many patterns to study!

This book was one of the core texts of my costume degree, for good reason! It's invaluable as a source for corset patterns, but they should be taken as an aid to draping rather than to be directly copied or scaled up (unless you are simply making an exact reproduction which is not intended to be modelled.) To take full advantage of the patterns in this book, a beginner will first need to learn how to drape a pattern on a dress stand.

Exactly the book needed to make my nieces exhibition piece. I now know all about inserting bones.

It's alright, but honestly I was expecting more from the reviews. It's fine and I will be scaling up a pattern soon (though it could be clearer). Really though I find it a bit dated and could have more clearer history in addition to improved pattern pieces. It's a good addition to my collection, but I don't know if I would buy it again.

コルセットを愛する海外の女性がyoutubeで絶賛していたので買ってみました。 なるほど、コルセットとクリノリンの歴史について詳しく載っています。恐らくこれだけの詳しい資料はコルセット文化の浅い日本にはないと思います。歴史というのはいわゆるコルセット前世紀のヴィクトリアンよりずーっと前のコルセットの原型になったと考えられる１５世紀のものまでさかのぼっています。 たまにフランス語の文章のところもありますが、英語が理解できれば読めます。実物の写真や絵画、実際のパターンの縮小図も載っていて大変参考になりました。実際に作ることもできます。 コルセットとクリノリンの世界の深さが感じられて面白かったです

This was a gift for a young actress who loves cosplay. She absolutely loved this book and plans to recreate some of the designs inside.

Não gostei porque ele é todo em inglês e pensei que os moldes iriam vir com medidas. Comprei por que queria ter os moldes.
