Mr. Coffee Basket-Style Gold Tone Permanent Filter -

I got this to go with a 12-cup Mr. Coffee machine (just about the cheapest one here on Amazon, and one of the first to show up in the search results). I liked the idea of a reusable filter as it seemed like less waste and fewer things to remember to buy. I can deal with a little cleaning. It fits perfectly in my coffee maker and the little handle makes it easy to remove. I'm quite glad I got this. I use it for Crio Bru (roasted, ground cocoa beans) and it seems much better for that than the regular paper filters are -- it finishes brewing more quickly and the filter doesn't get as clogged as the paper ones do (Crio Bru has some oils in it). The filter is pretty easy to clean. While it is dishwasher-safe (stay with the top rack since it does have some plastic parts), I only run my dishwasher every couple of days, so I usually handwash this. I did dent the mesh part of the filter a little while cleaning, but it still works well and seems sturdy overall. Definitely recommended if you are trying to reduce the amount of trash you produce, if you have trouble remembering to buy paper filters, or if you are brewing Crio Bru instead of regular coffee (or all three).

I bought this because of the paper taste that paper filters leave behind. I think that this does a better job than a paper filter. Here are the Pros and cons Pros 1. Save money not having to buy paper filters. Granted this will take a while to break even but all it takes is not having paper filters when you need some coffee. 2. Truer taste of coffee you are brewing because this will let all the oils through. Where as paper filters take out the low notes this will give you a well balances cup of coffee. Cons 1. You have to clean it out with water. 2. Potential to build up oils over time. Lastly, a word of advice to people on septic tanks. Empty the coffee grinds in your trash can as well as you can and then rinse this out. The acidity of coffee can create an unfavorable environment the helpful bacteria in your septic tank. Just food for thought.

What's there to say? You put ground coffee in it and put it in the coffee maker. It works exactly like a paper filter except you can wash it and re-use it. I've had mine for over a year and it's still going strong. The filter mesh itself is super fine and high-quality, and has no problem being lightly scrubbed for a deeper clean. But do remember to leave it out for a while after making coffee as it'll be hot, especially where the coffee/hot water has soaked through. Leave it out for a few minutes, then run it under the water and you're golden. This is a great alternative to paper filters as it reduces waste and saves long-term money. 5/5

I bought this filter sort of as a test for my newer coffee maker as I had discovered that a bunch of my old cone style filters didn't work anymore. I figured that for less than six bucks, I'd give this filter a try and see if it would do the job of making coffee. I found that it works pretty well. I was a bit concerned about the fact that the filter has a solid plastic bottom on it, wondering how the coffee would filter through properly. After filling it with the proper amount of grounds and running a pot of coffee, I found that the coffee did flow through properly and I had no issues with a mess or anything like I was anticipating. The dregs of the pot didn't have an appreciable difference from a regular filter that I saw, and the coffee that came out tasted normal to me. The filter performed pretty well for what I was expecting. You can use the little handle at the top to get the filter out of the coffee maker pretty easily and dump the grounds in the garbage. It does take a little bit of time to rinse the grounds out of the filter, probably because of the plastic bottom, but it's not a chore. I've ran it through the top rack of the dishwasher and tested it on probably 25 pots of coffee now and I have had no issues or overflows yet. I don't think this is the best filter that I've ever used, but it is cheap and reusable so you don't have to buy extra filters, or if you run out, you have an option. It should work in different types of Mr. Coffee machines too, although I haven't tested it on different models, so if you upgrade or have to buy a new maker, this should work for it. I recommend it, it's cheap enough and does it's job pretty well.

At first, I thought I ordered the wrong item, so I quickly came to check what I ha ordered and peruse the reviews. I found that the solid bottom was supposed to be solid, and it was, indeed, compatible with my coffee maker. I absolutely love the filter and notice a significant taste difference between this and paper filters. I'll never go back. As far as the quality of the product itself, the plastic and mesh seem a tad flimsy, but the mesh is very fine, so it can't exactly be fit for armor. The basket comes with a handle you can attach for easier removal from the coffee maker. Washing it is a bit of a pain, and seems like a tremendous waste of water because of how long it takes to thoroughly clean, but a quick rinse really does the trick, so I don't find it necessary to remove every single grind after each use. I just give it a good shake and a couple taps, a quick rinse to make sure the filter is not clogged, and put fresh grounds in. No need to make it a tedious chore. I've used it for 6 pots of coffee now, and it works great.

I'm a big coffee drinker. So I do go through a TON of paper filters. As other reviewers have stated the only real issue with this product is cleaning. I do wait until the coffee grounds completely dry out before I tap them out. The taste of the coffee is very different compared to paper filters. While I know paying for paper filters is not a huge inconvenience (and easier to "clean" since you just throw the coffee filters out anyway) it does get irritating when you forget to pick up some new ones. This paper filter for me easily made 8 cups of coffee. It fit into my coffee maker quite nicely. I expected it to be smaller, but nope. Another thing I would like to note is be sure to measure where you place the coffee filter in. Depending on the type of coffee maker you have the dimensions could be a little off. I did this beforehand to make sure this coffee maker would fit. So glad I did! Other than the price this is a nice product. However, it'll pay for itself easily in a year so I don't mind.

It works okay but I wish there was about a half inch taller so the coffee grinds couldn't boil over and get into my coffee pot

This is a great item, it works well. I got tired of the paper filters "folding over" if not placed correctly in the basket (and sometimes even IF placed correctly). It mad a terrible mess of coffee grounds and ruined the pot. Well, that never happens with this permanent filter basket. I had a similar style, different brand purchased off the rack, that I used successfully for over a year but the mesh began degrading. This one looks to be better made and with a solid plastic bottom It's sure to last a long, long time. I just knock out the grounds soon after brewing and give it a quick rinse under water and it's ready for the next use! This is a great product, just go on and get yourself one.
