Beautiful color and great protection
This product is a great alternative to teak oil, which we had originally used to help protect our patio set from the elements. But then after a few months we noticed black spots all over the wood, and it was only then that we learned that the oil was "food" for mold and mildew. After using a teak cleaner to get rid of the black spots and residual oil, we tried the Golden Care Teak Protector and have been very pleased with the results. The color is beautiful, and water beads right up on the finish. The best part was how easy and fast it was to apply and how quickly it dried. A disposable cup to pour out small amounts at a time and a foam brush worked perfectly. Wiping the brush on the edge of the cup first helped remove excess product to prevent drips and brush lines. A little went a very long way, and the protector went on smoothly with no streaks, lines, or uneven color. Everything was completely dry and usable within a couple hours. It was also great to not have to worry about the potential for spontaneous combustion as with oil-based products. We only wish we had known about this product from the start, but we are so happy to have a much easier maintenance option to keep our furniture looking great for the long-term.

Like the color that it adds to the wood
We got this on the recommendation from the furniture store where we bought our teak table. They said that they had always recommended "teak oil" until this product came along. Not knowing much about teak, I took them and the info from the mfg of this product at their word. I tried it on the bottom of the table as they suggested and really liked how it added a richness to the look of the wood. It didn't really change the color - it still looked like teak - it just deepened it. So, I did the whole table with it according to the directions and was very pleased. It applied easily using a small rag and rubbing it on. So, basically this is a protector - protecting against moisture and sun exposure. We'll see how things look after next summer. I'm in WI, so the table is inside for the winter months and will go out in spring. One thing that occured to me after trying the product on the bottom of the table is that I have a place that I can look at the end of next summer to see how it looks without any wear. There will be no water or sun exposure there. If the top and legs look a bit faded compared to that, I can put another coat of the protector on.

Fabulous!
Research indicated that a UV Protector leads to a better finish and durability than teak oil, so this product became an easy choice. Applied after a thorough cleaning and scrubbing of my outdoor teak furniture, and then a sanding using medium and fine papers. I agree with others that two coats of this product are necessary; the first coat does soak into the wood; after drying, the wood will beautifully accept the second or finish application. For my teak bench, I used a micro rag for application; I do think that led to some waste of time and product, as I had to work to fight excess product and prevent drips. For my second piece of teak furniture, a chair, I used a small paintbrush to apply the product, giving me far more control. Do note that with the second coat/application, a little goes a long way! The final look is spectacular and does hold up to the elements thus far (first year). Highly recommended! It’s great to have a worthy product that shows off the hours of hard work preparing the outdoor teak furniture for the proper finish. This product will take you there, for sure.

Great stuff
I didn't get the 'Golden Care' brand, but I believe that one manufacturer makes the same product and sells it under several different brand names for furniture stores, so it didn't bother me at all. I bought a new teak patio set, assembled it and let it sit outside for 2-3 months (I read somewhere that you should let it be outside for at least 2 weeks before applying a protectant like this). I then washed the set with a soft brush and a bit of Dawn dishwashing liquid, hosed it down and let it dry for a day before getting up early to beat the heat and applying the product. I ran a fine grit sandpaper block over rough patches of wood or areas where there was a bit of staining first. It took me 2 hours to do 6 chairs and a large table, but the product went on easily and I still have 1/2 bottle left for next time. I took the photos during and immediately after the application process. The darker, golden-orange areas were the 'after treatment' shots. The lighter wood areas are the 'before'. It has been about 2 months since applying the protectant now. The set isn't as beautiful-golden as it was right after application, but it definately isn't silvering out like unprotected teak. I'm very happy with the product and will buy it again. --------- EDIT: I came back to leave a review and found my review from 8 years ago! I come back every 2 years and use a teak cleaner/brightner product and then apply a coat of this protectant (2 coats on the top as it gets lots of UV exposure). I just added 2 new photos after this year's cleaning (of a now 8 year-old table). The 2 photos that have green at the top of them are the 8 year-old table photos... the others are of the table when it was new. It's hard to tell the difference! I'll keep using this stuff. It does a great job. I might start adding a coat of it every spring with a cleaning/brightening/protectant treament every other year.

Apply with a Foam Sponge
While this product did an excellent job improving the appearance of my older teak furniture, I would definitely recommend other users to use a foam brush rather a cloth for application. It’s easier, faster, more effective, and there is less waste of the product.

Not too orange! Just shake well.
Can't really assess the long term protection that this provides, as I just applied it, but based on other reviews, that wasn't really a big concern of mine. I was mainly worried about turning my teak orange, and after two coats, I am relieved that the color is very similar to the original color of my new teak table. Maybe a little deeper tones, but not at all orange. I'm really happy with the result, and will be applying teak shield next. Application was very straight forward. Just used the cloth that was provided and it went on easily. I think maybe if your teak has aged to a weathered patina, and you like that color, this might look too orange to you, but it really is very similar to brand new teak. Either that, or maybe the unhappy people didn't shake the bottle enough (the instructions say 1 minute) or continue to agitate it during the application process? I only used this on one outdoor table, and it feels like there's enough product in the bottle to last for years. I'll post a couple of before and after photos (the before photo is the one with the bottle on the table, the after is the one with the grass in the background). Also, I was debating between this and Semco, which also gets good reviews, but I like that this is in a plastic bottle, instead of a paint can. There were also a lot of color choices with Semco, and using their website color samples, it was really hard to tell what the finished product would look like. Anyway, I'm happy with my choice, and would definitely recommend this one.

Helpful product as advertised
The product is a bit messy to use, as I decided to brush it on. It’s been several years since the first application, and our teak outdoor table is weathering great and with the advertised color. I just lightly sand and retreat needed areas annually. I reorder as needed and get consistent new bottles.
