You can take it down, switch doors, etc.If you're using it between walls/drywall, you definitely need to use the cups AND bear in mind it's a permanent change until you want to mud/repaint. It will remove paint without the cups and the cups are installed with sticky pads or screws that will still remove paint/leave holes. That's pretty standard for any pet gate.The door latch is easy to operate one-handed so long as you don't have any grip/hand mobility issues.The ability to swing both ways is always a must in this house, but you can also let down one of the stoppers so it only opens in one direction.My only complaint is the size of the small pet/cat door opening. It's huge! I had removed the swinging door because my cats can't manage to rub their two brain cells together long enough to figure out they can go through it and from either direction. One of them yowled outside it and the other managed to get through, but then panicked and thought he was trapped for eternity. He would never again be able to scream at the bottom of the stairs because he caught a glimpse of the bottom of his food bowl.I took the door out, which my dog then interpreted as a magic open portal to cat litter town. This 58 lb GSD mix goes full Exorcist and wriggles through the opening towards the Holy Lands, just to find the portal doesn't work both ways. (It does.) You'd think that walk of shame would have deterred her, but now she jets through any time my back is turned. BUT for all her struggles, the gate hasn't budged an inch!Summary:Sturdy gate, easy to install. Not for dumb cats or determined dogs. Also babies can fit through the opening. Check opening measurements before ordering.

It comes with adhesive for mounting without drilling into your doorframe, which is good considering we rent and will not be living here forever. I was concerned that the adhesive would over time become do stuck to the paint that it would damage the doorframe anyway when it needed removing, so I stuck the adhesive to the little knobs meant to be put against the wall and left the backing on the part of the adhesive that would otherwise stick to the frame. This has not reduced the gate's ability to withstand out 60lb puppy when he wants to get through it. Granted, we have it set up so that the gate sits where the door would go if closed. But we don't close our bedroom door for air-flow and very-vocal-cat reasons anyway. The little latch at the bottom is great for only allowing the gate to open in one direction, and the latch on top is plastic but strong and secure. As with other reviewers, I'll emphasize that the tension knows will need to be turned rather tightly to allow the parts of the gate that need to connect in order for it to close to, well, connect. This is on purpose and does what it's designed to do. The plastic of the small animal door does squeak ever so slightly when our cat goes through it, but thats likely resolved by adding some Vaseline (or something else that would lubricate without attracting your pets to it and being kicked off) but we don't care enough to do anything about it . We did not need to use the extenders and we have not needed to lock the small door so I can't speak to how well those work. We bought this about 4 months ago and I see no reason to be worried we'd have to replace it any time soon, and it us TALL. Our boy can stretch to 5 feet and is a jumper, but he has yet to believe he could make it over :)

I have multiple cats and a pair of 90 lb lab/hound dogs who *love* the cats (the feeling is not reciprocated).This gate lets the cats come and go as they please, but more importantly, it's utterly resisted, with zero damage, no bending, not even scratches, all of my dogs' semi-frantic attempts to invade the cats personal space. The latch is simple but dog-proof and locks solidly, the gate, hinges and step-through work well and are solid enough to inspire confidence.Whoever designed this knew what they were doing, and, I suspect, had big dogs.If you're looking for a gate that will let cats through and keep dogs (up to a reasonable size, at least) out, just buy it. It's what you're looking for.

This gate is attractive, easy to use, tall enough that our German Shepherd wouldn't jump over it, and sturdy enough that she couldn't pull it out of the door frame or break it (so far.) The installation was relatively easy. We didn't install the cat flap since it didn't seem to serve any purpose. I would have given this five stars if we hadn't just caught our 70 pound dog going through the cat door.German Shepherds are big dogs. Ours is lean, so perhaps if your large dog is overweight the gate will keep it out. Small and medium dogs will have no trouble going through, and I imagine that a determined toddler would get through, too.We hope we've solved our problem by blocking the top of the opening with sturdy tape. The tape is black, and surprisingly, (since it's 2" wide), not all that noticeable. (Follow-up: it worked.)Pros:- attractive- sturdy- easy to use- relatively easy to installCons:- relatively high price- cat opening is too large- once you put it together, you can't take some of it apart. Whether or not you have a cat flap is a permanent decision

After reading the reviews I almost didn’t buy this gate, however I am so glad I did. It was fairly easy to install but it did take 2 people to install it. Our door frame is wide and it fits tightly with both extensions. It seems very secure so far, we have only had it installed a couple of days but so far so good. My dogs have not tried to pass through the small door and the cats use the small door no issue. My dogs cannot jump the gate as it’s tall enough to prevent that. It’s the perfect gate to keep the dogs away from our cats food. Glad I purchased the gate despite some of the reviews because it’s perfect for what we need.

Gate is easy to use, opening and closing is easy breeze as it requires minimal hand strength, while still being sturdy to keep young kids and pets out.
