Ridiculous price for a book
Did not purchase. Just wanted to comment on how absolutely absurd the price of this book is. Essentially the seller and or publishers of the book are saying that this information and beauty is not permissible or open to the common Muslim as it should be, and to whom frankly the knowledge and benefit belongs to. The description even mentions "students". In this day and age students are BROKE! If there was a sincere attempt to engulf and enrich the hearts of the Muslims and non Muslims alike in the knowledge/history provided in this book, it would be made affordable. What use is it then as it is now with its price except to be as a mere collectible to show off about for those people who can blow $3000 on a book. It seems it is only for the rich and well to do and for nobody else which to me is a crime. And that goes for even old or ancient and precious manuscripts and books of the old Muslim world, that institutions have beautifully replicated only to be kept in their buildings or purchased for ridiculous amounts of money. It literally does no benefit to whom its benefit is most deserved. Copies of such books or information, including this one should be made in a way that is preserving and affordable to the common man. Otherwise it is useless, almost taunting rather.

May I also add my comments to the many below regarding this book. I have visited the Topkapi palace before many years ago and have personally seen many of the sacred relics that this book describes and I have to say, for anyone wishing to make the trip to Istanbul to visit Topkapi you really do need to purchase this book. I think its importance is in that many people visiting have no idea of the importance of Topkapi or the significance of the Ottoman Empire. Much of the sacred history of Islam in Saudi Arabia has now been demolished, turned into car parks, waste ground or otherwise erased from history so it is extremely fortunate that these sacred relics were taken to Istanbul. The book concentrates only on the sacred Islamic relics kept within Topkapi, it covers the cloaks worn by the Prophet Muhammad, his companions and wives. It covers the swords, the sacred doors of the kaba and other sacred relics of prophets such as Moses and Abraham. One disappointment I found was that it did not cover some of the other areas of the Topkapi such as the preserved items from the Ottoman Sultans. The other thing being that although there was brief mention they did not really point out that there are also other relics kept in various Mosques around Istanbul such as Hirka Sherif and the resting place of Sultan Ahmed. The book is large and well presented. The pictures are of excellent quality and there is a good description of each one (Though not in massive detail) Some of the pictures are of fantastic quality such as the fold out picture of the Prophets cloak. I cant recommend enough reading this before any traveller goes to Istanbul. Only then can you really appreciate what an important city Istanbul is to Islam, Islamic history. Trust me, this book only gives you a very small idea of what you are in store for. I really wish there were a few more books like this published on other great cities. Fez city of Islam is one but maybe one day we will have one for Cairo, Marrakesh, Alexandria, sarajevo, Konya etc etc.....
