Slik Mini II
I decided to try this little tripod for tabletop use and quick set-ups in my lawn/pond garden area. Using a G1 m4/3 with any lens thru the 45-200, the little tripod seems to work well. For tabletop use, it's quite nice, taking up little space and has adequate height for flowers in vases The pan/tilt head is removable if a different head was preferable, but for practical use, this one is fine. I haven't really missed the quick release I would normally use with my higher end gear.I also have an Ultrapod II as an ultra compact pocket pod, but it isn't my first choice for tabletop use. I never really cared for the Gorillapod I have. The Slik Mini has the more familiar tripod feel and adjustability. It is far more solid as camera adjustments are made. For outdoor shots of low subjects in the garden, it's adequate and convenient. If I want to get serious or take the time to set up, use extension tubes/macro rails, I just use my good stuff. It has no real negatives to speak of, I just have options. It's useful, convenient and adequate for most purposes. It appears well suited for tabletop use. And that's what I wanted it for primarily. The more I use it, the more "likeable" and versatile it becomes, indoors or out. It's well worth the minimal cost.

A good compact, tabletop tripod.
People are generous with stars! I am sure I liked this tripod about as much as the 5 star reviewers did, but I reserve 5-stars for a perfect product and though this little beauty is good, it is far from perfect. My Gitzo gets 5 stars.I bought it to hold an iPhone with this accessory i Trek Smartphone Adapter Motorola Smartphones and for that it does a great job. Chose it over the Glif for versatility. The tripod is sturdy and I feel it would hold its max weight pretty well. And though the connectors and hinges are plastic, which are the weak point in this kind of item, the tightening bolts and collars are metal insets which gives me more confidence.Light and compact, a very excellent design but for...No tilt. You have 2 pans and a swivel. It would have been nice to ditch the top pan for a side to side tilt. The bottom pan being your small height too.It is very stiff at first, especially the head, but has broken in well.As a table top tripod it will never be more stable than what you set it on. I know it sounds obvious but believe me, people have blame the tripod, not the tree it was bungied to.And know what you are buying this for. Which is nothing that cost over $200. Even as an emergency backup tool for a pro, there are better options, though they cost significantly more money. This is a hobbyist and beginners item, but one that isn't all crap like most of the other compacts.

Highly robust table-top tripod
I was looking for a table-top mini tripod to support my Canon 5DM2-something that would not drift while shooting a time-lapse. Behold the Silk Mini 2!Pros:* Supports weight without any drift. Conservatively rated at 2.75 lbs. I've thrown on a 5-pound setup with no drift* Super easy to adjust* Small, central suction cup for smooth surfaces-an additional support leg for rough surfaces* A liquid leveler* Knobs that can withstand strong tightening* 8.5 inch height when all elements are fully extended* Comes with a nice, faux-velvet case* Really low price, given the build quality and competitionCons:Much larger than a traditional table-top tripodAll in all, if your need is support, this guy is your tripod! If you desire portability, this should not be your first pick.

Mini and mighty
Like many reviewers here, I wasn't expecting much given the price, but I was so pleased with the quality of this mini tripod that it is making me consider the Slik brand when the time comes to replace my full size tripod.I bought this tripod to support my Nikon D5100 and 35mm prime, and I have to say that it works extremely well. I originally bought it so that I could take restaurant food shots in low-light, but I found that this tripod also works well for what I call a "trash can tripod", in that I can set it up on a trash can or any low, wide surface out in the urban environment for night time urban shots.I keep it in my work bag along with my DSLR all the time now so that I'm never without a tripod.Highly recommend.

Not a toy,
For me! great little unit, goes with me most everywhere, I'm careful with it, I use some normally sized camera body's and lenses, Nikon D750, D90, d7100 d500, d5 70-200mm 150-600mm sand bagged legs, 15-30mm 200-500,, sand bagged, nice tripod, i am very careful with it. use mostly for small lenses, remote shutter releases, hidden in bushes, tree limbs, and getting spectacular shots of wildlife, will I recommend this tripod, SURE, just keep in mind it is small, lightly built, don't abuse it, it should last me many years, Mine ! I camouflaged it to cut the shine, small enough to cover with leaves, netting, the pouch that came with it is very nice too, I am going to get another one for my professional video cam,in closing , J R Massachusetts

The Slik Mini II is very sturdy. I like that the adjustment knobs are short ...
Exactly what I wanted for my spotting scope. The Slik Mini II is very sturdy. I like that the adjustment knobs are short and close to the frame of the tripod. Extending the legs does not increase the height of the spotting scope but maybe 1.5 inches, but does significantly increase the diameter of the support base, adding to the sturdiness. Height adjustment can be accomplished by raising the center post with a quick twist of the central tightening collar. I didn't need a lot of fine-tuning adjustment features, just a good solid tripod for the spotting scope. The Slik Mini II also folds up nice and small, and can easily fit into my spotting scope bag. I highly recommend the Slik Mini II as a great tripod for spotting scopes.
