Easy 1 handed operation, it was about time!
The locking mechanism might take some getting used to for those who are unfamiliar. It is not a safety issue putting your thumb in the path of the closing blade... because you should unlock it with your thumb, change your grip, move your index finger and close it with your thumb.1 of your hands can hang on to the boat the whole time. In my view that is a massive advancement in safety. I was not a fan of the Myerchin rigging knives with the locking mechanism on the lanyard loop. This design is superior. I have the big one and the small one. The big one is a bit larger than I would want but it easier to open and close than the crew knife with my Sasquatch hands.

Handy
Super duper awesome knife. I work construction…with the marlin spike, it’s prolonged the blades life. Just wish it was made a little bit thicker all around.

Nice knife, major defect
I really wanted to like this knife, but had to return it. Overall, it seemed well built and had a nice blade which came sharp. It was a good size and weight, and feet comfortable in my hand. And the collection of tools was perfect. However, while the mechanism on the blade was very smooth, the marlinspike was not. The detent that holds it closed ran along the edge of the base of the marlinspike itself, and made its action quite rough. After a couple dozen openings and closings, this detent was clearly grinding away at the marlinspike. I'm not sure if this was a problem with the copy I got, or an issue with the design. At very least, check your copy to make sure it's okay.

Five Stars
My favorite everyday carry / work knife.

Great sailing knife,
This knife has held up well over the first summer's use. My only complaint is the difficulty in closing the blade in that it requires locating a small lever inside of the blade path and exposes the user to potential nasty cuts.
