Shame on the editors! Original essence has been lost.
This edition is so different from the third edition that I treasured. The whole reason for canning told viathe story of a quaint VT woman is gone as are most of the great pickle recipes. Shame on you editors!

Putting Food By Needs a Larger Format
I ordered this 2010 edition in the hope of replacing an early paperback editionas the typeset is annoyingly small, even with glasses, which makes it a chore toread and apply. This 2010 edition is only slightly better, not sufficient to make it pleasant to readand apply without straining. This is a pity, as this book has valuable information that is poorly formatted.

Best of the Best, should be in every kitchen
THE Go To book for food preservation at home !!! Bar None ! That being said make sure you Very Carefuly read the product description or you to may end up with the cheapy throwaway paper back edition like i did. Cheap romance novel quality and size. If you did end up with the crappy copy just bight the bullet and reorder a better version because this is the book you are going to be refering to for years to come and you’ll be glad you did everytime you get it out (which you will, over and over)

I would have been happier to get another copy of the exact same book ...
This is a replacement for my original copy which is ragged and worn. It will serve the purpose, but there is something inherently different about this book. I don't care for the font, and it seems to have a bunch more 'scare' info in it, and other writing that takes away from the old fashioned feeling the original book. I would have been happier to get another copy of the exact same book I originally had. It was easier to read and use.

Excellent book!
My original copy of "Putting Food By" that I've had since the 1970s finally needed replaced as the pages were so brittle. This is my go-to book for home preserving. I love it! I noticed the new edition has some added info that I'll be eager to try out next garden season.

definitely a must,beleve that,because it's true
This should be a bible on how to store food safely, repeat safely.the information crossed reference with the u.s.d.a. just about every aspect connected with food storage.even as a quick reference, for people who do food storage all the time,I still believe in safety first, and a quick double check could not hurt.I've checked with other sources, and it always comes out truthful and accurate info ,in my opinion ,simply a must have for food storage.beautiful, there is a real reason why others recommend this book.you can add to it,but you can't subtract from it.if there is a better book,I don't know it.

The ONLY Food Preserving Book To Buy
Excellent book for those who wish a single reference source and bible for preserving their own food.No pictures...it assumes you already know what a canning jar looks like and how to fill it!Originally written in the nineteen-thirties by a Brattleboro VT woman back when almost everyone 'put food by'.

a notebook of experienced canners.
many home preserving books are copy paste jobs. This is different because the ladies have actually done the work and are reporting their success and failures. This book has been revised over the years. There are points that have gotten hung up where the practice has been changed in one portion of the book but still show the old method in others. You just have to understand that if something is not as safe in one part of the book it is unsafe in other also. overall it is an awesome book.

Fantastic book with lots of recipes and info!
Being an American living in the U.K. it’s nice to find books from the states with recipes and quantities I understand without having to pull out my trusty conversion chart.I’m a big lover of canning my own chilli and soups and vegetables during the spring and summer months and can have them at hand over winter. There’s some fantastic recipes and information in this book. For those in the U.K. interested in canning this book is great. You can google kitchen conversions and print one out like I did.

Very informative
Lots of information, my first purchase of food preservation book so didnt know what to expect. I felt like it could have been easier to hold, the spine was quite tight. Also some pictures of techniques would have been useful
