I was in need of a replacement centre punch so I started looking at various types. Seeing this one intrigued me. We all get in that situation where we’re holding an item with one hand, a centre punch with the other you are a hand short for whacking it with the hammer. This claimed to do this automatically! Well, to my surprise it does. And it does it very well. First time I was a little bit dubious but I held it vertically like the instructions said and slowly pressed downward. There was a satisfying crunch not unlike that made when using a stapler whilst upholstering and bingo, the centre punch has made a small indentation in the wood. Perfect. There was no stopping me now. I tried it on a piece of metal sheeting and it worked just as well. I have no idea how long this will last but so far it feels robust enough.

When the centre punch arrived I thought it looked well made . After it's first few usage (punching guides for drilling in mild steel) it failed to make any indent at all ! I then used it for marking drill holes in wood , after five or six times it fell apart . Conclusion , it's a poor quality , badly made tool . Pay more and buy a good quality branded one , you will get your moneys worth .

My husband uses this to make dents to guide him when he drills holes to make patterns on the top of old, unplayable guitars which he upcycles and sells to friends as a hobby. It does the job fine. He's happy with it.

This is an excellent tool I have only used a manual center punch before. This is a great idea it enables you to mark the spot using only one hand. Don't know why I did not buy one before. If you buy one you will not regret it, your working lot will be a happier one.

Just didn't work. Very occasionally would it "pop", something obviously wrong inside. When it worked it left a slight indent, much smaller than a traditional centre punch though. But perhaps that was faulty too.Decided this would probably happen quickly even with a new one, Chinese junk. Returned.

It failed to work out of the box, on examination it was contaminated internally with swarf, a strip, clean and a splash of WD40 and it is now OK.

Standard puncher but can't fault it.

Seems to work well. Takes a bit of force to trigger, but made a clear indent in the cast aluminium box I was about to drill. Easy to place accurately.
