I must confess I was very curious about this product but had serious doubts if it was worth the $20.00. So, being the coffee snob that I am I wanted to try it out. First, it is very well made. You will not have any concerns about its materials or workmanship. This will last a lifetime. Second, it is very easy to use. I thought it would be just a hassle in pulling my shots in the morning but its not. Third, this whole idea of a perfectly level puck is true. This tamper/leveler removes any pockets, cracks or little valleys and makes the grounds level and smooth. So very important. This product assures that.Finally, the pulls I am getting are remarkable different. Because the grounds are perfectly leveled and all pockets are removed the full flavor of the coffee comes through. Complete hot water coverage of the entire puck.So, if you are a real coffee snob you will love this new toy!!Enjoy!!Tony

It's not as adjustable as it should be. Picture 1 shows the maximum I was able to screw the cap off without it falling off. About a half turn onto the threads which gave it 1/16" of total adjustment from fully seated to maximum extension. Picture 2 shows it at max extension. Picture 3 shows how much thread is sticking out at max extension. Picture 4 shows it fully seated. Picture 5 is the base and it shows a little metal thread that was still attached to the base. Picture 6 show that fully seated the threads only stick out about 3/16" and about 1/4" to the top. Picture 7 shows the cap is very close to 1/2" deep so the threaded section of the base could have been almost 1/4" longer. I'm hoping I just got a defective one and they normally have a longer threaded section. Picture 8 shows how coffee gets jammed into the gap between base and center section. If it allowed me to extend it as much as I wanted that may not happen as much. It would also be beneficial to make it a little more than 58mm because there is a decent size gap between the portafilter and the leveler where coffee doesn't get leveled and sticks to the sides.

A neat and well designed gadget. It works. Very simple. Feels hefty and well made. Easily adjustable.

I initially thought that this was just another gadget that wouldn't get much use, but after using it a few times to get my technique dialed in, I don't see how I ever made espresso without it.

I have two... one that is from Italy and beautiful to look at not to mention costly. This one is red and plain and costs so much less . Hey both work perfect...

A very useful accessory for perfecting espresso shots. I use it as a leveler prior to tamping and it works very well in getting a uniform puck. Particularly helpful with naked portafilter. Highly recommend

This thing has been a lifesaver for me and my Gaggia Classic espresso machine. Evenly distributed grinds for a good even extraction, and not near as expensive as the Jack Leveler. Easy to adjust depth. Highly recommend.

Nice Weight and materials

I use this with a Gaggia classic pro 58mm portafilter.It works fine and for the price, not sure you can get better than that. It is not perfect, it feels just a tiny tiny bit too loose in the portafilter but at that price point I guess it can be expected.I pull great shots nonetheless, so it works! It is easy to adjust, and has a nice weight to it. It feels sturdy and well made. I won't need anything else for many years!I hope this review has been helpful to you. Coffee sticks even at lowest setting, prepare to lose a gram or two each leveling. That being said levels well. Serves it purpose.
