Works well under Linux
I was looking for a way to use a laptop as an external monitor for an Intel NUC whilst travelling, so I thought I would try using this - setup was easy, only requiring a small tweak to pulseaudio to support the encoding rate for audio, otherwise it just worked. It's now a part of my travel kit, for just such situations.

Good 1080p recording
This can record from whatever you plug into it. I mean everything (wink wink, nudge nudge) I think we all know what I am saying here.If you, hypothetically say, accidentally plugged in your Blu-ray player, fire stick, Roku, etc, it would record. But we would never do that, now would we?Update: I see from some reviews that some users were having trouble with the somewhat proprietary video format the Cloner Alliance products use.My recommendations:1. Record in the resolution that matches as closely as possible the desired final format.2. Use Cloner alliance's Mp4-cloner software to trim, combine and otherwise edit your video. (really, just use it. it was made by the same company that made your recording device, so it would make sense that it would be the best product to use)3. If your videos need further massaging; run them through Handbrake, which can easily convert Cloner Alliance's MP4 format into almost anything you desire, or need.My experience with these products are that the above is the simplest, and fastest method, to clean up video files produced with these devices. If you just cannot bring yourself to use the free software that works the best, Run the files through Handbrake first then you can edit them in any software package you desire.

An absolute nightmare to work with.
This card suffers from MULTIPLE serious issues. Please read this before buying. The capture is quality is grainy, has poor to awful color accuracy and the audio desync is an absolute deal breaker. I'll get into that in a bit.Using their advised capture software is asinine. It offers literally no useful tools and miraculously gives the worst capture quality overall. The only thing it has going for it is the fact that the audio is synced using this software and NO OTHER SOFTWARE. Realistically, anyone using this for streaming is going to be using OBS or split and the card barely works with them - I had to contact their support just to get it to work with their very specific necessary settings. Worst of all, their audio solution is horrid, and the experience you're going to have will leave you beyond frustrated. Not only is it ridiculous that an audio delay filter has to be applied for the audio to be even close to timed correctly,(it's frequently FULL SECONDS off otherwise) but even after the filter is applied, this capture device manages to desync itself again, without touching the capture card or settings at all!! within 1 to 5 minutes the audio has completely desynced and you have to go through the entire process again. This is of course if you're able to accept the 2 to 3 seconds of input delay from the audio desync filter, making any game iherently impossible to bear, let alone even play through the capture alone. Calling this card "Ultra-low latency" is blatantly false when their OWN support page advises you to set a delay of several seconds. You're going to NEED to purchase an HDMI splitter separately to play your game on a separate screen to have any success at all, particularly if you're playing anything competitive which completely rules out this card as an option on its own.In conclusion, look elsewhere. The audio desync issue absolutely ruin this product, the capture is poor to okay, and without an HDMI passthrough, this card has almost nothing to offer. What a horrible experience. I tried to save myself $20 off of getting an Elgato product and it wasnt worth the hassle, and I'll likely never get my money back. The only reason I gave this product 2 stars instead of one is on the technicality that it functions at all, albeit very poorly.

The Chert makes is possible to use an Android phone as a better display for my video camera!
I've tried a variety of video cameras and many have inadequate displays so I went looking for an external display. After realizing that I have a better screen in my pocket than I could buy (for a reasonable price here), I looked for products that would make my phone usable. It turns out the Chert does exactly that; by connecting the output from my video camera to the Chert and the Chert to my phone I can now use it as a high resolution external display for my video camera.Extending on this idea, I wondered if it was possible to charge my phone while using the Chert. It turns out that you can... In addition to the Chert I purchased a hub that has (USB-C in), (USB-C PD in) and USB-C out... I then connected a standard 5V 2.xA power bank to the PD of the hub, the Chert to the USB-C in of the hub and the USB-C out from the hub to my phone... This allows me to use my phone as a display for the camera without draining its battery. It also ensures that the video output of the Chert stays stable as the Chert would sometimes freeze up (for a few seconds before unfreezing) when connected to just my phone. I've included a picture of my camera connected to the Chert (it's below the camera) and the hub connected to my phone (to the left of the camera). Both are held in place by two sided reusable nano tape.Quick update: Before trying the hub with the Chert I sent a question to the ClonerAlliance customer service team. I was extremely impressed by how fast they got to me, how fast they responded to additional questions and how professional the responses were. They truly stand behind their products which is refreshing to see.

Chert 4kc on MacBookPro is pure garbage
I went through two dSLRs thinking I had the wrong camera plugged in. The color was off, the motion was jerky and it was not a clear picture. Turns out when I switched to a different HDMI in product, all the problems went away. Running a 13" MacBook Pro and just wanting 1080p30 input. It's essentially a piece of garbage. Wasted months troubleshooting the wrong thing.Save your money and if you're on a Mac, find a different product like the Elgato Cam Link 4k.

Good product for adapting my DSLR to a webcam source
When I started looking into capture cards for this use-case, everything I read online pointed me to the Elgato Cam Link. When that was unavailable, I was at a bit of a loss. Reading other products weren't obvious it would be a brainless, plug-n-play experience.ClonerAlliance turned out to be perfect solution for my webcam needs and more. My DSLR now just shows up as 'CA Chert' when selecting a camera source in Zoom, Skype, and other applications. It is HDMI to USB C, unlike most other capture cards I found which are typically USB 3.0. I have not experienced any significant latency when using it for video conferences or as a source into OBS, which I hear is a common problem with many capture cards.I use this with my Mac and can confirm it was totally plug and play; automatically recognized as a camera source.Note: Make sure you have the right cable for your camera. In my case, I needed a micro-HDMI-to-HDMI cable to connect to my Canon.

Big time lag
Neat unit but unfortunately has a significant delay from my camera and GoPro, so can't use it for the purpose of turning either of them into a webcam.

Poor product
After a couple months of use, this device started creating static in the sound, and continual connection issues with Zoom--I've had to plug in and out many times to get it to work properly. As many of these reviews state, this is not a 4K capture, with flickering video. For the pricing, which in the top range for devices like this, it's something that I hope you can avoid, to save yourself time, energy and money. I switched to the Elgato Camlink--the picture quality is much higher, and so much less of a hassle.

No Mac software
The Cloner Alliance software is not available for Mac, the recommended solution is to run a virtual machine on your Mac with Windows installed on it. This requires a Windows license and introduces latencies.
